NY Times investigates Domino’s Brooklyn Style Pizza
Earlier this year, late at night in the office, my manager came by to tell me that there was free pizza. My first question: “Where’s it from?” To which I got the response: “What are you? A pizza snob?”
It turned out it was from Domino’s. And no, I didn’t have any. And yes, I guess that does make me a snob. Around here, it’s Amici’s or bust.
Even though I fast forward through most ads on TV thanks to my buggy Comcast PVR - I still manage to see the Domino’s ad for Brooklyn Style Pizza. I think I roll my eyes every time. That said, I did wonder what it was like. Last time a major chain tried a “New York Style” pizza, they simply made it larger.
Fortunately, the NY Times investigates and reports back. Here’s my favorite quote from the review:
‘Brooklyn Style Pizza’ Meets the Real Deal - New York Times
The Domino’s pizza has an oddly sweet crust that somehow manages to blend the characteristics of cotton and rubber.
Youch!
Check out the review for more details on how a real pizza differs than the Domino’s one.

Oh, I just DETEST Domino’s pizza — and not just because the owner of the franchises back in DC is a raging right-wing nutcase.
No, their pizza isn’t even as good as the stuff I once had at a McDonald’s in Indiana. I’d say the only WORSE pizza is the slab of foam rubber we used to get in high school.
In my opinion, the best pizza was from Pizza Pantry in my home town of Arlington, Virginia. My dad used to get pizza from there when he was young, and I continued the tradition until they closed shortly before I moved to California.
With Pizza Pantry gone, what was left to keep me there?

I just stumbled across this page while doing a search for Pizza Pantry. I heard it closed a couple of years ago, but had re-opened in ‘07. I’ve lived in GA since 1980 and for years I had friends bring me Filmores in their carry on luggage on their trips South. When we were old enough to have our own money, my brothers and I used to order a pizza each, just so we wouldn’t have to share. In the late 70’s I carried a couple of pizzas and a case of beer back to the house I shared with roomates on Glebe Rd riding on the back of a Kawasaki 900. Did that more than once. Best pizza I ever had.
