Some sample glass UI from Office 2008 for Mac
Having worked on Office for the Mac for 5 years, I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for the suite. I just noticed that last week a former colleague, Han-yi published a nice preview of the new UI that’s coming up in the next release.
Here’s a sample shot from the post (click to enlarge):
The MacBU generally has a pretty good knack for nice UI -they know their customers are serious about demanding it. This looks pretty good IMHO.

Yes, it’s pretty, but…
I have to question the need for such an overwhelming number of options and controls on every freakin’ window. This is obviously an issue arising from Microsoft’s Windows UI, where the menu bar appears on every separate window instead of out of the way across the top of the screen, as in the Mac OS. (And Mac developers have jumped on this bandwagon as well.)
This is particularly annoying because most computer screens are wider than they are tall, and this kind of UI takes away valuable vertical space. As screens get wider, our apps are not changing — their windows are still tall and narrow, meaning that there is FAR less working space in the windows; this UI exacerbates that problem to no end.
Please, Microsoft. If you’re gonna bloat these apps so much, at least put all the options in menus and leave me a clean window in which to work.

It looks like a cluster fuck to me. Sorry for the french. It’s shiny at first but it all looks like it gets in the way.
