Given knowledge of the traffic patterns, I’d take the second route. But what’s more interesting to me is that the lower one (live.com?) is labeled Interstate 880 as Highway 262! What’s up with that?

You’re right, that is curious.

Depends on time of day and weather.
I abhor 880 at any commute time.
The 880/238 interchange can be atrocious. When going by San Mateo bridge, I’ve just taken Hwy 92 (Jackson/Foothill) straight through Hayward, up to 580. Some lights… but steady progress.
The southern route might be attractive. 880 seems to completely stop by Dixon Landing Rd, so you might be able to sneak across on Mission (262), or even Auto Mall Parkway, if southbound 880 is not looking good.
